The estate planning bucket list

The bucket list may have been popularized by a Hollywood hit in the last decade, but the idea has been around for ages. Many people make bucket lists for many different reasons. Sometimes people don't know what they would put on their bucket lists if they were to make one. The first thing on every person's bucket list should be to enjoy every day. Although we all wish for a long and healthy life, sometimes unexpected things happen.

Unexpected things don't give people warning. That's why it is important that everyone has an estate planning bucket list. However, this bucket list isn't something you should do over the course of your life. The idea of this list is to plan today in case "kicking the bucket" comes sooner than expected.

Since the first thing on the list is an ongoing task, enjoying every day, here are a few more ideas to include in your estate planning checklist:

- Make a list of things you hope to accomplish throughout your long life.

- Protect yourself and your family using proper estate planning documents, including a will, trust and living will.

-Remember your loved ones and plan to help them if you pass away unexpectedly.

-Make sure beneficiaries on accounts are not conflicting with other estate planning documents.

While estate planning isn't always easy for a person to discuss, it is a very important topic in making sure a person and their family have peace of mind if something was to happen to them.
